EATS INITIATIVE

In 2010 and 2013, the Executive Director of the Environment and Tourism Support Initiative (EATS) served as a facilitator for the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) programs in Imo State and Delta State, Nigeria, collaborating with Imo state rural water and sanitation agency (RUWASSA) to trigger actions for open defecation free status.

The CLTS program is designed to empower communities to take responsibility for their own environmental sanitation, with a strong focus on ending open defecation and promoting Open Defecation-Free (ODF) communities. Through community-driven approaches and participatory methods, the initiative successfully triggered local action and strengthened environmental stewardship at the grassroots level.
